At CommunityHive, we believe the people of the Ephrata and Cocalico region thrive when neighbors support neighbors. Just like a thriving beehive, every individual contribution—whether time, resources, or compassion—helps strengthen the whole community.

CommunityHive is the next chapter in the legacy of Ephrata Area Social Services, an organization that has been serving Northern Lancaster County since 1971. While our name has evolved, our purpose remains the same: bringing people together to ensure every neighbor has the support they need to live with dignity, stability, and hope.

Our Story

More than five decades ago, local churches and community leaders recognized that even in times of prosperity, some neighbors were quietly struggling. In 1971, they formed Ephrata Area Social Services with a simple but powerful vision: “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” 

That vision continues to guide CommunityHive today.

What began as a grassroots effort has grown into a trusted community resource serving individuals and families across the Ephrata and Cocalico regions of Northern Lancaster County. Through food assistance, transportation services, case management, and community programs, our team and volunteers work together to meet immediate needs while helping people build pathways toward long-term stability.

Every service we provide—and every relationship we build—reflects our belief that a stronger community benefits everyone.

Why “CommunityHive”?

Our new name reflects the spirit that has always powered our work.

A hive thrives because each bee contributes to something greater than itself. In the same way, a healthy community grows when neighbors collaborate, share resources, and care for one another.

The bee in our logo symbolizes:

How We Support Our Community

CommunityHive offers a range of programs designed to address real needs while fostering independence and connection. These services include:

• Food support programs that help families access nutritious groceries
• Meals delivered to seniors and homebound neighbors through Meals on Wheels
• Transportation services that connect individuals to medical care, groceries, and essential services
• Community support and case management that help neighbors navigate challenges and plan for stability
• Housing and mentoring programs that support families working toward long-term independence

Together, these initiatives deliver thousands of services each month across Northern Lancaster County.
